The picturesque island of Tasmania provides a stunning setting for the Detective Inspector Terry Stratton mystery crimes with a psychological edge.
In the series opener, Stratton is like a fish out of water in his new role. He yearns for action, solving mysteries and preventing crimes, rather than the tedium of wading through crime statistic reports.
When fresh evidence leads the Deputy Commissioner to reopen an investigation into the murder of a young man from a wealthy family, she asks Stratton to investigate. He jumps at the chance, even though it is her work he will be scrutinising.
The case takes Stratton to Oatlands, one of the island’s most historic towns. The more he learns about the town and its people, the more Stratton doubts the findings of the original investigation. A pattern takes shape, and unlikely suspects emerge, but not before Stratton incurs the wrath of his nemesis, Assistant Commissioner Morton.
As questions mount, and tensions escalate, a killer is exposed and Stratton’s career changes forever.

Just finished reading Cossing the Patriline. Fun read. Easy; excellent main character - just bought the next one. Having lived in Tasmania for over 20 years and worked in Oatlands for several years, it was wonderful to visit again in my imagination. Keep them coming.
